A Little Laundry Decorating

Renovating our laundry a couple of years ago was such a fabulous investment of our time and money.  The room is functional and organised, and after a few years of it being like this, I can promise you that it was worth being so thorough with everything, as the systems in place all work like a dream!

Something that I always wanted to do was to decorate the laundry, to make it a little more visually appealing.  It looked lovely - very clean and sleek with the white cupboards and taupe bench tops, but it just needed some personality.

My New Laundry - The Electrical Elements

As you know, I put a lot of thought into the little 'things' that make up my laundry.  I tried to think of everything that would be of use in the long run.  This post is all about the electrical items that we added, to make the room just right.

Yesterday I posted about the Robinhood Ironing Centre - read about that here.  It would have to be my favourite electrical addition to the room! But here are plenty of others that have helped to make the room that little bit more functional also...

Mick found this amazing swivel light for the sewing bench.  Previously, I had a long fluro tube above this bench, and wanted something similar again, as the old one threw a lot of light.  I was so thrilled when Mick came home with this fluro tube that actually swivels!  You can point it directly down for sewing:

My New Laundry - The Robinhood Ironing Centre

It has been a while since I posted about my new laundry (which isn't really new anymore!), but I have a couple of posts that I wanted to put up, in order to finish the series.  You will see these pop up over the next week or so...

Including the Robinhood ironing centre in my laundry design was something I had dreamed of for many years!  After now having had the system in place for quite some time, I can certainly report back that it was money well spent :)

My New Laundry - Plumbing & Tiling

In our new laundry, we put in an Ikea Domsjo Sink (which I can't find on the website for some reason). I love the ceramic, rather than stainless steel!  It is a fabulous size, nice and wide and deep - I am sure it will be used for a multitude of purposes over coming years.

My New Laundry - Overhead Cupboard Organisation

This post follows on from my previous posts where I have shared my new laundry here and here.  Today we are going to have a tour of inside the overhead cupboards...

We will start with my treasured clothes airer cupboard.  The airer is at the very top of the cupboard, and I didn't want to waste the storage space at the bottom of this cupboard, so I decided that this is where I would keep my 'House' caddies, which hold my weekly cleaning products and cleaning rags.  These caddies are easy to lift out in the event that I need to use the clothes line, so it isn't really an issue having them in here as far as functionality of the clothes line goes.  It also keeps the caddies neatly tucked away (although they are so cute!), and is tall enough to fit them with the handle standing up. You can also see that I popped in a removable hook on the side of the cupboard for my favourite cleaning brush.

My New Laundry - The Cupboard Design

Following on from my post yesterday where I finally revealed our new laundry... today I thought I would go into a bit of detail about the design of the cupboards.  I tend to totally over-analyse everything, and definitely put way too much thought into this laundry - but in this instance, it has resulted with heaps of storage space!

So, I mentioned previously that I used the Bunnings online planning tool to design my laundry.  Thus, we obviously used the Bunnings cupboards to make it.  We looked at the flat packs at Mitre 10 and Ikea too, but Bunnings worked out to be the cheapest, plus I loved their laundry range and I wouldn't have my pull-out clothes airer (that so many of you love too!) if went with another brand.  The brand is called Flatpax - you can check out their website here.  I think they have really nailed the functionality of their cupboards, as they have trough cupboards for under the sink, laundry hamper pull out cupboards, broom cupboards and more!  Even though I didn't use all of these, I loved having the option to pick and choose from such a great range.

My New Laundry - Part 1

For those of you who have been following me for a while now, you would know that last year we renovated our laundry... and I never did get around to posting the finished photos.  This is probably because it is still not quite finished (in my eyes), but I decided that I would share with you what we have done so far - which is actually a whole lot!

My Laundry - Part #1

A few months back, I did a bit of research on my favourite blogs around Laundry Organisation.  I wanted to 'spruce up' my laundry, since it somewhere that I have to spend time in each day.  As always, the prettier the area, the more likely I am to use it, and also keep it looking pretty!  Inspired by this quote, I set out on my mission...

I Love Matching Pegs

Ok, we all have our quirks and one of mine would have to be that I must have matching pegs to hang out the washing!  Some of you will nod your heads in agreement, others will shake your heads in dismay.  Whatever your reaction, I am sorry, but it does my head in to not match!

So, while this isn't really a big deal, it can mean that hanging out washing is a little stressful for people like me!  The dilemma is which colour peg to use for which colour clothes - red pegs for red clothes and blue pegs for blue clothes - that's easy.  But what happens when you don't have pegs to match the clothes??  And what happens when someone else hangs out your washing and they don't use matching pegs?  Shock, horror - we must go and re-do it!  I know that a friend of mine had to get her mother-in-law to come over everyday to hang out the washing after she had a caesarean to deliver her baby boy, because her hubby just wasn't doing it 'right'.

Laying Clothes Out For Tomorrow

Laying out my clothes at night is another trick I do to make my mornings run smoothly.  By choosing clothes the night before and hanging them on my special 'outfit' hangers, I don't have to make any decisions in the morning, which can be a huge time-waster if you are hopeless at decision-making like me!

Laundry - A Load A Day

This is certainly not one of my favourite jobs in the world, but I do have a few tips/ideas that help me to keep on top of the ever-growing laundry pile!

Firstly, I live by the Flylady theory of 'a load a day keeps Mount Washmore away'.  Every night as part of my Evening Routine (I will post about this soon), I put a load of washing in the machine and pour the detergent in the dispenser.  I don't press start, I just leave it sitting there.
